What do you do in your home country and what do you hope to do upon your return? In particular, with the integration of your experiences here?

I work in digital health innovation and promotion. Basically using technology in various levels of the healthcare system to improve health service delivery especially in hard-to-reach areas. Also, we are trying to use health promotion that uses fun and interactive methods for promotion, so social media particularly right now.

What I hope to do when I get back home is to develop digital health further in the Malawi health system at various levels and different projects, especially to help the marginalized populations in those hard-to-reach areas. Also, to make health promotion a fun thing, especially among the youth, so that it is not a chore, it is not something difficult, but rather something that they are excited to be a part of.

What is your favorite thing about your home country? How about Philadelphia?

How beautiful it is. It is a simple, small country. However, it is so beautiful because there is so much amazing nature that is untouched, I love to drive around with family and friends and see the area and appreciate the natural beauty of the country.

The arts, especially the murals! They are everywhere and they are so beautiful, they tell a story. I make sure that when I go running, I do not stop until I see a new mural. The stories that they tell just seem rich, beautiful, colorful, and bright, and they are diverse as well, each tells a different story. You can tell that there is a story behind them.

Do you have any hobbies or an interesting fact you wish to share about yourself?

I like to sew things. I don’t know if you know chitenge, it is an African textile that is very bright, many of us are wearing it. It is something that I do because my mom always sewed all of our clothes so I learned from her. I make clothes, beanbags, little crafts. I do not do it on a business scale but it is something that I like to do, I find it to be very relaxing.

If I were to come to your home country, what is the first thing I should eat?

You have to have Chambo, it is our national fish. It is delicious.
